Ana Patricia Botin appointed Santander’s new chairman

Ana Patricia Botin was born in 1960 in a financial dynasty, and was named first Counselor of the bank in 1989, and was re-elected in all general meetings until 2014.

After a period at JP Morgan (1981-1988), in 1992 she was appointed general director of Banco Santander, S.A., and subsequently assumed the Executive Presidency of Banesto between 2002 and 2010.

The daughter of Emilio Botin quit Banesto in 2010 to lead Santander UK. A crucial step that many read as the final step to succeed her father. The UK is also the crown jewels for the lender: 20% of its profits come from the island.

Santander bank is Spain’s largest lender, and the biggest bank in the eurozone by capitalisation, currently valued at €91.6 billion.
