Two weeks after the election, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU still has not come to a decision about with whom to form a new coalition government. Negotiations with the Social Democrats, who are divided over whether or not to take part in a “Grosse Koalition”, have stalled over the SDP’s demand to increase taxes on the rich.

Meanwhile, the CDU is going to open talks with the Greens on October 10, despite the idea of this alternative coalition having been rejected by the CSU, the Bavarian branch of the CDU.
