Creation of mercantile companies grew 0.8% in Spain

The Spanish national statistics office INE today reported that 7,606 mercantile companies were created in June, 0.8% more than in the same month of 2012. The capital subscribed for their constitution exceeded 285 million euros, representing an decrease of 80.9%. The average capital subscribed (37,535 euros) decreased by 81.0% in its annual rate.

On the other hand, 2,529 mercantile companies increased their capital in June, 14.1% less than in the same month of 2012. The capital subscribed in the increases registered an increase of 133.9 and exceeded 7,648 million euros. The average capital subscribed in these transactions (3,024,184 euros) increased 172.2% in its annual rate.

The number of mercantile companies dissolved in June was 1,663, 0.5% less as compared with the same month of the previous year. Of these, 65.8% did so voluntarily, 6.0% due to mergers and the remaining 28.2% for other reasons.

The Autonomous Communities with the greatest number of mercantile companies created were Comunidad de Madrid (1,679) and Catalonia (1,322). Conversely, the Autonomous Communities where less mercantile companies were created were La Rioja (36) and Cantabria (72). Regarding the dissolved mercantile companies, the Autonomous Communities that registered the highest number of dissolutions were Comunidad de Madrid (487) and Andalucía (221). In turn, those registering the lowest number of dissolutions were Comunidad Foral de Navarra and Cantabria (both with 12).

In terms of annual variation of mercantile companies created, Extremadura (18.1%), Castilla-La Mancha (17.7%) and Balearic Islands (15.6%) registered the greatest increases. Conversely, the lowest annual rates were registered in Catalonia (–13.3%) and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (–11.7%).

Regarding the mercantile companies dissolved in June, Castilla-La Mancha registered the greatest annual rate (45.2%), followed by Comunidad de Madrid (21.8%) and Comunitat Valenciana (19.5%). Conversely, Cantabria and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (both with -40.0%) showed the lowest annual rates.
