Spain’s Cabinet has authorised the processing of the emergency decrees to regulate the procedure for auctions and access and connection to the energy transmission networks. These decrees will provide legal certainty for the Spanish energy framework, preparing it for the installation of some 60 GW of renewables in the next decade. Up until now, the product auctioned has been the installed capacity, subject to a minimum and maximum in order to receive the return per operation.
spain renewables auctions
While last week’s auction of installation licences for 3.000 MW of renewable energy was very successful, many companies ended up not being awarded anything. So the government has decided to hold another auction with similar characteristics. But this time it will only be for renewable and photovoltaic energy.
The Energy Ministry this week held its macro-auction to award installation licences for up to 3.000 MW of renewables plants in Spain. The auction represents an investment of over 3 billion euros and Forestalia, Gas Natural and Endesa ended up with the majority of the MW.
There is no question about the importance of the renewables auction due to take place between now and June if we take into account that installed renewables power in Spain (excepting hydraulic) is 31.216 Mw. So in other words, the new installations will increase this energy park by 10%.
