Randstad Research | Just before the start of the crisis, in February 2020, the number of companies was 1.48 M, i.e. 89,000 more than today. This loss means a drop of 6% in the number of businesses. If the comparison is made with April 2019, in order to avoid seasonality, the situation is even worse, since the fall in the number of companies is 7.6%, with a reduction of 115,014 companies.
The number of new companies registered its highest year-on-year increase in March since 1995, when the historical series began, with growth of 61.8%, to a total of 10,968 new firms. This is the highest figure in almost 13 years, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). With this year-on-year increase in March, the number of new companies created has now been positive for two consecutive months, after having risen by 3.1% in February.
The new 11 billion euros stimulus package for the financial equilibrium of hotel and tourism firms, as well as small businesses, will get the green light from the government at the end of the week. This aid scheme will be backed by three funds to provide direct help for companies : one with aid to affected businesses channelled by the autonomous communities, a second one for the conversion of ICO credits and a third one for the recapitalization of medium-sized companies.
