CdM | The airports in the Aena (AENA) network in Spain closed February with 19,993, 427 passengers, 4% more than in the same month last year, while the group’s airports (comprising 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London-Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) handled 24,537,134 passengers, 4.4% more.
Specifically, according to the data provided by the company, in Spain they managed 178,767 aircraft movements, 6.9% more than in 2024; and transported 99,168 tonnes of cargo, 3.9% more than last year.
In addition, a record number of passengers has been broken in the month of February across the entire Aena network and at 18 airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Tenerife Sur, Valencia, Seville, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Menorca, Bilbao, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Ibiza, Melilla, Asturias and the Ceuta Heliport.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in February with 4,820,733, which represents a growth of 2.3% compared to the same month last year. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 3,754,942 (up 2.8% compared to 2024); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,522,258 (7%); Gran Canaria, with 1,332, 678 (0.7%); Tenerife South, with 1,244,951 (2.2%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,166,789 (16.4%) and Palma de Mallorca, with 1,057,450 passengers, which is 2.1% more than in February 2024.
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in February was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 31,493 (up 1.8% compared to 2024), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 24,417 flights (3.5%); Gran Canaria, with 11, 544 down 0.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 10,931 (up 8%); Palma de Mallorca, with 9,212 (up 1.7%); Tenerife Sur, with 8,144 (4.7%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 7,575 landings and take-offs (18.9%).
In addition, February 2025 was the month with the most overall operations for Aena and 11 infrastructures: Málaga-Costa del Sol, Tenerife Sur, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Sevilla, Fuerteventura, Son Bonet, La Gomera, Logroño and El Hierro.
With regard to freight traffic, February 2025, across the entire Aena network in Spain, has seen the highest total freight traffic to date. By airport, the airport with the highest cargo volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 61,306 tonnes, 7% more than in the same month of 2024.
This makes February the busiest month ever for commercial goods traffic at Madrid’s infrastructure. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, which registered 14,317 tonnes (down 2.6%); Zaragoza, with 12,226 tonnes (up 8%) and Vitoria, with 5,343 tonnes (down 11.7%).
Up to the second month of 2025, 39,794 travellers have passed through Aena’s airports in Spain. 852 travellers (5% more than in 2024); 353,255 aircraft movements were recorded (up 6%) and 194,992 tonnes of cargo were transported, 4.1% more than in the same period of 2024.
