There has been a lot of positive news from SiemensGamesa this week. On the one hand, it has presented two new products: the onshore wind turbine SG 4.2 – 145 and the SG 8.0 – 167 DD for offshore which will boost annual energy production by 20%. We also heard it won an order to supply 113 wind turbines for the Swedish firm Vattenfall for three offshore wind energy projects in Denmark, for a total capacity of over 950 megawatts (MW).
The Swedish group said the total investment in the three projects will be some 1.7 billion euros, although it did not say exactly how much corresponds to the order awarded to SiemensGamesa.
The installation of the turbines in the biggest of the three wind farms (72 turbines), is expected to happen in February 2021, and it will be finally operational before the end of the same year. With regard to the other two wind farms, the installation will begin in 2020 and they will be operational by year-end.
According to ACF, this contract represents approximately 20% of the company’s off-shore order book at end-September 2017.
Elsewhere, and coinciding with the international fare WindEurope (in Amsterdam), SiemensGamesa announced the launch of two new off-shore turbines SG 8.0 – 167 DD. The new off-shore platform model will have a rotor 167 metres in diameter. The B82 blades provide a sweep area which is 18% greater and a 20% increase in production compared to their predecessor, the S WT-7.0 – 154. The new off-shore turbine incorporates the proven technology of the direct drive platform.
With a total installed capacity of approximately 11GW, SGRE has the best track record in the sector amongst off-shore turbine manufacturers. As of September 2017, over 300 direct drive turbines have been delivered to a range of clients. SiemensGamesa has a lot of experience with this technology as it has installed more than 2.230 direct drive turbines over the last 10 years.
