Repsol is now producing electricity at Antofagasta Phase 1, its largest wind farm to date and one of the largest in Chile. Located in the Taltal commune, in the Antofagasta region, it has a total installed capacity of 364 MW. Construction of Phase 2, with a capacity of 450 MW, will begin shortly, the energy company reports.
With an investment of nearly €400 million, Antofagasta Phase 1, which will become commercially operational in the coming weeks, is the first renewable project fully developed by Repsol in Chile. The park was built in 19 months and its annual production will reach 750 GW/h, the equivalent of the average annual consumption of 220,000 Chilean households.
In the same Chilean region, Repsol plans the construction of Phase 2, which will add approximately 450 MW to its portfolio of renewable assets.
The multi-energy company began its activity in Chile through the joint venture Repsol Ibereólica Renovables Chile −a company 50% owned by Repsol and the Ibereólica Renovables Group−, with which it operates the Cabo Leones III wind farms, with 188 MW, and Atacama, with 166 MW, both located in the Huasco province, in the Atacama Desert. Antofagasta Phase 1 and Antofagasta Phase 2 are 100% owned by Repsol.
Renewable generation projects are one of the strategic pillars of Repsol’s energy transition process. Currently, the company has nearly 4,000 MW of operational renewables and a global portfolio of 60,000 MW of projects in various stages of development.
