Link Securities | The Spanish company and Bittium have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the development of Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions, a key technology in defence modernisation, according to the digital portal Bolsamania.com. The aim of the agreement is to explore technology transfer from Bittium, while Indra will contribute its extensive experience and expertise in the field of SDR systems and waveforms. In addition, it will be responsible for carrying out the necessary developments to implement in Spain the technological and industrial capabilities required to develop a completely proprietary solution of European origin.
This solution, Indra says, will guarantee European sovereignty over this critical asset, meeting the requirements of the Spanish and allied armed forces. ‘With this agreement, we want to take another step forward in Indra’s long history of developing proprietary technologies and in the experience we have accumulated over the last 15 years in the field of SDR technology and waveforms, which has positioned us as national leaders in this field,’ said Ángel Escribano, the company’s executive chairman.
On the other hand, the digital newspaper elEconomista.es reports today that Indra is finalising an alliance to join the consortium made up of German giant Rheinmetall (RHM-DE) and Italian company Leonardo (LDO-IT) to submit a joint bid for Iveco Defence, the armoured vehicle division of the Italian automotive group. According to this newspaper, the technology company is waiting for a joint venture between the three companies to be signed, which is expected to go ahead after negotiations are finalised, with the aim of submitting the bid at the end of July. The value of the transaction, according to analysts’ estimates, would be between €1.5 billion and €2 billion, so everything points to the bid being in that price range.
