Spanish GOWEX launches service in Brazil ahead of 2014 FIFA World Cup

GOWEX, a global company creating Smart Cities Wi-Fi or Wireless Smart Cities ® and Intelligent Wi-Fi on public transport, announced this week a roaming agreement with the historic Oi Brazilian company, second largest carrier in South America and one of the official partners of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The deal will promote Wi-Fi access in the country during the events that will attract millions of people : the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games. Thanks to this bilateral agreement, GOWEX and Oi users will benefit from the thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots that both companies have created around the world. “The Oi networks’ appeal is even more evident when you consider the millions of visitors are expected in the coming years due to the events hosted in Brazil and the country’s role as an emerging economy of high growt,” GOWEX said in a press release.

The mobile technology penetration in Brazil is gathering pace, with a 133.25% increase in February 2013, 263 million active lines and 65.68 million mobile connections. More than 100.000 hotspots in Brazil The Oi Wi-Fi network will be extended around the country’s major cities (more than 100.000 hotspots): from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo, Fortaleza or the capital, Brasilia, in the rest of the world and in hotels and airports.

Likewise, Oi customers can take advantage of Wi-Fi access in GOWEX main capitals: from Madrid to New York via Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Dublin and Paris, and more than 70 cities around the world. In addition, users can connect to networks of other members of the Gowex Roaming Platform, such as AT & T, PCCW and Deutsche Telekom, among others. Recently the coverage of Oi Wi-Fi Brazil significantly exceeded the number of 100.000 hotspots in the country and is expected to continue with high growth rates in the near future.
