Bolsas y Mercados (BME) has published a report giving details of stock market trading activity in December, as well as a figure for 2017 as a whole.
ACF analysts highlight that the Spanish stock market traded €651.466 million in equities during last year, in line with the amount negotiated in 2016 (€652.925 million), according to BME’s report.
Trading volumes in December stood at €47.671 million, up 3.4% from the previous month, but down 2.7% with respect to a year earlier. In December 2016, trading volumes stood at €48.987 million, although this in fact represented a year-on-year decline of 27.5%.
There were 50,9 million transactions in 2017, down 6.4% from a year earlier. In December, there were 3,3 million transactions, a 17.9% drop from a year ago.
ACF’s valuation: The published figures show stability in the volumes traded by BME in equities in 2017, which we view as positive taking into account the declines registered in previous years (2017 vs 2016 -32.1%). But the December figures indicate a certain slowdown compared with the recovery in volumes which began in H2’17 (Q3’17 +3.7%), and which has been obvious since the month of September.
