In the utilities sector, Gas Natural Fenosa and Enagás stand out for their commitment to sustainability. After all, the DJSI selects the most sustainable companies from all over the world.
In the case of Enagás, this Spanish company has been 6 years in a row in the index and has even improved its score since last year. In the last review, Enagás got the highest marks in the economic dimension, especially at risk and crisis management, relationship with customers and management control systems. Enagás has also been leader in climate change strategy, environmental reporting and policy, and health and safety matters within the social field.
RobecoSAM is in charge of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. For the 2013 edition, the DJSI World has selected 333 companies out of 3,000 that fulfill the best corporate sustainability criteria. Regarding the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe, 29 companies were included and 18 were removed, which leaves now 177 companies (10% of whom are Spanish). It is important to note that a specific index by Standard & Poor’s (which is now the new owner) designates the eligible companies instead of a more global Dow Jones index.
