With Easter Week, Spain Reaches Historic High of 21,588,639 Social Security Affiliates in April

The arrival of immigrants has invigorated the Spanish population

According to data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the number of unemployed individuals decreased by 67,420 people in April (down 2.6%), to 2,512,718 people.

This was a result of hiring in the services sector, which accounted for nearly three-quarters of the decrease in unemployment, a sector particularly active due to the celebration of Easter Week in April. The decrease in unemployment was greater than in the same month of 2024 (60,503 fewer unemployed), but less than the drops recorded in 2023 (73,890) and 2022 (86,260).

The Social Security system, for its part, gained an average of 230,993 contributors in April compared to March (up 1.1%), again driven by the hospitality industry, which added more than 108,000 new affiliates due to hiring for Easter Week. In this way, the number of contributors rose to 21,588,639 people, which represents a new historical high for affiliation, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
