Link Securities | The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported that total vehicle sales in China fell by 0.6% year-on-year in March (down 15.2% in February), reaching 2.899 million units.
It should be noted that February sales plummeted as volumes were affected by the significant reduction in working days, since the Lunar New Year holidays fell in February this year rather than January last year. It is also worth noting that in March, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) rose by 1.2% year-on-year.
In the first quarter of the year (Q1 2026), car sales in China fell by 5.6% year-on-year, reversing the 11.2% increase recorded in the same period of 2025. Sales of electric vehicles fell by 3.7% compared with the same period last year. It is also worth noting that in March, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) rose by 1.2% year-on-year.
