Car sales in Spain moderate pace of growth to +8.2% in April after +45% accumulated in Q1

Intermoney | According to data published by the manufacturers’ (Anfac), dealers’ (Faconauto) and sellers’ (Ganvam) associations, car sales in Spain maintained a positive performance in April, although the pace of growth moderated to +8.2% after the strong +45% growth accumulated in the first quarter. For The First Time Since 2015, More Electric Vehicles Were Sold In Europe In July Than In China

Santander Corporate & Investment | Global sales of electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles increased 72% annually and 5% monthly to 253,000 units in July (the 4th best monthly figure in history). Europe recorded remarkable growth (199% in yearly terms and 22% monthly), due to incentives and requirements to cut average emissions in the EU. Meanwhile there was a slight recovery in China (+44% on a yoy basis, but -5% monthly). Germany, France and the UK made the largest contributions to sales growth.

Body Blow To Spain’s Automobile Sector : Nissan Closes Its Barcelona Plant, Destroying Nearly 25,000 Jobs

The automotive sector was already in a difficult situation before COVID-19. The Spanish market is not escaping this crisis and has already seen its first victim with the announcement of the Nissan plants’ closure in Barcelona. The closure, which is expected to take place in December, will cut around 3,000 direct jobs at the plant and an additional 20,000 indirect jobs. The sector represents 10% of Spanish GDP and the three Catalan factories produce 1 in 5 vehicles assembled in Spain.
