Spain’s Final Q2’21 GDP Marks A Year-On-Year Increase Of 17.5%, Still Below Estimates Of 19.8%

According to National Institute of Statistics, Spanish GDP registered a rise of 1.1% in the second quarter of 2021 with respect to the previous quarter in volume terms. This rate is 1.7 points higher than that recorded in the first quarter and 1.7 points lower than that reported on 30 July. The year-on-year change in GDP stands at 17.5%, compared with -4.2% in the previous quarter. This rate is 2.3 points lower than that recorded on 30 July.

According to the consultancy firm Knight Frank, which in its Global House Price Index has analysed the evolution of prices in 55 countries from 1Q20 to last spring 2021, in the USA, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Luxembourg and Sweden housing has risen by more than +15%, above the average (+9.2%). Turkey leads the ranking with an increase of +29%. Spain is the market with the biggest fall in the global ranking, with a decrease of 0.9%. India is the other lagging country in the list, with a 0.5% decline.

Grifols To Launch A Takeover Bid For Germany’s Biotest At €1.6 Bn

Grifols and Tiancheng Pharma, the main shareholder of Germany’s Biotest, have agreed that Grifols will buy Biotest with the aim of increasing its plasma collection capacity. Tiancheng Pharma owns 89.9% of Biotest’s ordinary shares and 1.1% of the preferred shares. The consideration of €1.6 Bn for the 100% of Biotest will be paid in cash and represents a premium of 23%.

The Summer Campaign Generated Over 900,000 Hospitality Contracts; 400,000 More Than Last Year, But 29% Less Than Pre-Pandemic

Randstad | Comparing the figures provided by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) from ten years ago, we can see that the hospitality sector generated 912,401 contracts during the summer campaign, i.e. during the months of June, July and August. A figure 76% higher than last year, when 518,263 contracts were recorded, but still 28.8% below the 1,281,964 signed in 2019, before the outbreak of the pandemic. Whatsmore, this volume is on a par with that obtained in the summer of 2014, when 908,436 contracts were signed.
