The Drive TN consortium, led by Ferrovial, has been awarded the development of the express lanes on the I-24 Southeast highway in the Nashville metropolitan area (Tennessee). The project involves a total investment of $9.2 billion (around €7.88 billion).

The project will cover a 42-kilometer section in both directions of the I-24 highway, running from the I-40 in eastern Nashville to the I-840 near Murfreesboro, one of the region’s most congested areas.

Ferrovial leads the DriveTN consortium, which also includes Transurban and Tikehau Star Infra. They will handle the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the roadway. The project will implement a dynamic tolling system (Express Lanes), where rates adjust based on traffic volume to guarantee fast and predictable travel times while maintaining the existing toll-free lanes alongside.

This model replicates the strategy Ferrovial has already deployed in other US corridors (such as the TexPress Lanes in Texas, Charlotte, or the I-66 in Virginia), consolidating the US market as the group’s primary growth engine.

The project will also mark a historic milestone for Tennessee, as it will be the first public-private partnership in the state’s history.
