Renta 4 | The Industry and Transport Committee of the Spanish Parliament rejected the non-binding motion presented by the Popular Party to halt the 6.5% increase in Aena’s airport charges planned for 2026. The vote was close, with 18 votes against and 17 in favour.
The fee update is covered by current regulations and, according to Aena, responds to the need to finance investments and infrastructure maintenance. The increase, as was already known, amounts to an additional €0.68 per passenger.
The government has pointed out that the fees have no direct impact on ticket prices, as they are paid by the airlines, although the latter tend to pass on the cost to the end consumer. At the same time, a discount scheme is maintained for airports with fewer than three million passengers.
The Minister of Transport has reiterated that airport policy will not be adapted to a single airline and that discussions are ongoing with other operators, such as Vueling, to cover the reduced supply from Ryanair.
