The rise of artificial intelligence is driving a broad business ecosystem beyond the big tech firms. A report by BestBrokers identifies 160 S&P 500 companies linked to the AI economy, with a combined value of $10.19 trillion.

The boom in artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer occurring in isolation, and whilst tech companies compete to expand their AI capabilities with multi-billion investments, a much broader business ecosystem is emerging around them. To shed more light on the companies that are quietly becoming part of this AI boom, BestBrokers has produced a report analysing the companies that make up the S&P 500 and their role in the AI economy.
In this study, the investment research platform analysed the 503 companies that make up the S&P 500 and identified companies across the entire AI infrastructure ecosystem, including semiconductor suppliers, networking firms, storage providers, optical technology companies and other businesses that supply AI data centres.
The report identifies 160 companies, in addition to the 58 leading AI companies, that are significantly connected to the AI economy. Collectively, these companies have a current market value of $10.19 trillion, demonstrating the extent to which investment in AI has spread beyond the companies developing the technology.
What makes this group particularly interesting is the tenuous link that some of these companies have with traditional AI-related sectors. The expansion of data centres is generating demand for electricity, a massive supply of water for cooling, networking equipment, construction, industrial machinery and other physical infrastructure, thereby creating a second economy centred on AI. Furthermore, the researchers included 42 companies that can be considered major adopters of AI; unlike the vast majority of companies that currently use AI tools in one way or another, for these companies AI has become a fundamental tool for their products, business model and long-term strategy.
Some of the most prominent names in this broader AI ecosystem include:
- Exxon Mobil (Energy and Power Infrastructure for AI): market capitalisation of $568.2 billion
- Chevron (Energy and Electricity Infrastructure for AI): $337 billion
- GE Vernova (Energy and Power Infrastructure with AI): $299.1 billion
- Cisco (AI Infrastructure and Data Centres): $444.2 billion
- Dell Technologies (AI Infrastructure and Data Centres): $254.8 billion
- Linde (Energy and Electricity Infrastructure with AI): $252.7 billion.
- Eaton (AI infrastructure providers): $154.7 billion.
- Vertiv (AI infrastructure providers): $115.4 billion
- Equinix (AI infrastructure and data centres): $98.8 billion
- Constellation Energy (AI-enabled energy and electricity infrastructure): $85.4 billion.
