Unemployment rose in January by 90,248 people and the Social Security system lost 244,044 members, the worst figure since 2013, when Spain was trying to emerge from the crisis. All the Autonomous Communities, except for the Balearic Islands, have seen the unemployment rate rise in all sectors except construction, so some Autonomous Communities already have more unemployed than in 2019.
Unemployment fell by 112,400 people in 2019, 3.4% less than in 2018, registering its seventh consecutive annual decline. This drop is the smallest since 2013, when unemployment fell by 85,400 people. The fall in unemployment was four times less in 2019 compared with 2018.The jobless rate stood at 13.78% at end-2019.
Spain´s unemployment rate fell to 13.92% in the third quarter, compared to the estimated 13.75% and 14.02% in the previous quarter. According to the Active Population Survey (EPA) published on Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), unemployment fell by 16,200 persons in the third quarter, 5% less than in the previous quarter, leaving a total of 3,214,400 unemployed.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the unemployment rate at the end of 2018 was 14.45%, 2.1 percentage points less than in 2017 and its lowest level for 10 years. For its part, employment grew by 566,200 people in 2018, almost 3% more than 2017, securing its fifth consecutive annual increase and the largest increase since 2006, when 686,200 jobs were created in Spain.
According to the estimates of BBVA Research, social security enrollment increased 0.8% in second quarter , and unemployment reduced 1.6%.
The number of jobless people registered in the public employment services’ offices fell by 83,738 in May compared to the previous month (-2.5%). The total number of unemployed stood at 3.25 million end-May.
The number of Spanish unemployment fell by 47,697 in March in comparison with the previous month, according to figures from the Labour ministry. Figures of registered unemployed totaled 3.42 million, which was the lowest level of the last nine years.
