Iberdrola To Develop The Still Inmature Japanese Offshore Wind Market

Iberdrola is targeting the Japanese market as a new platform for growth in renewable energy, specifically in the field of offshore wind. It has signed a deal with Macquarie’s Green Investment Group to acquire 100% of the local developer Acacia Renewables, which currently has two offshore wind farms under development, with a combined capacity of up to 1.2 GW. The operation will allow Iberdrola to position itself in the early development stage of Japan’s offshore wind market.

Renta 4 | Iberdrola has announced a takeover bid for 100% of the Australian renewables company Infigen Energy at a price of AUD 0.86$ per share. This is in line with Infigen Energy’s current stock price, but 6% higher than the offer made by UAL Energy on 9 June. It values Infigen at AUD 841 M (510 million euros approximately, 0.7% of Iberdrola’s market cap), with an EV/EBITDA multiple of 8.2x (vs 10x at Iberdrola’s current price).

Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid, has signed a long-term ‘green’ energy power purchase agreement (‘PPA’ in English) with German telecommunications giant T-Mobile. The energy will be supplied by the Otter Creek wind farm in LaSalle County, Illinois, USA. The company has corporate clients in the US such as Nike, Amazon, Apple, Google and Facebook, amongst others.

Iberdrola has increased its ambition in the offshore wind industry, following the conclusion of an agreement to take 100% ownership of Ailes Marines. The company, which previously owned 70% of the consortium’s capital, has acquired the remaining 30% from Avel Vor. With a global 12.4 GW offshore wind project pipeline, Iberdrola currently operates three offshore wind farms: West of Duddon Sands (389 MW), Wikinger (350 MW) and the 714-MW East Anglia ONE (to be fully commissioned in 2020).

Iberdrola Merges Offshore Wind Farms In the UK Into A Mega Project Of €7,600 M

Iberdrola will promote via its subsidiary Scottish Power Renewables a marine wind mega-project, called East Anglia Hub, which will add an installed capacity of 3,100 MW and involve an approximate investment of 6,500 million pounds (more than 7,600 million euros). The three projects will be procured together to leverage their scale with a continuous installation programme.
